Our mintie challenge in Room 6!

WALT - read and interpret the graph of a statistical investigation.
I know this when I write four statements about the Mintie Challenge.
Statements :
1. 2 people got less than 20cm.
2. Lots of students got more than 50cm.
3. The teachers almost got the same length as each other.
4. 2 people got more than 90cm.

This chart shows that it is highly possible to get different lengths, using the same paper. This depends on how patient and careful you are with the wrapper.

Things you need -

  • Jar
  • Measuring cup
  • Sugar
  • Popsicle stick
  • Pipe cleaner
  • Spoon
  • Water
  • Food coloring

Instructions:

Step 1 - When you've gotten all your ingredients in front of you, grab the jar, sugar, cup and water.
Step 2 - Scoop 250 g of water and put it into the jar.
Step 3 - Add 750 g of sugar into the jar.
Step 4 - Using the spoon, keep stirring until all the sugar is dissolved.
Step 5 - Get the food coloring and add only a drop.
Step 6 - Get the popsicle stick and pipe cleaner.
Step 7 - Hold ⅕ of the pipe cleaner and tie it to the popsicle stick (make sure it’s long enough).
Step 8 - Dip the tail of the pipe cleaner into the water and the popsicle stick balancing across the top of the jar.
How it works - In a few weeks, the sugar that you have put in the jar will stick to the pipe cleaner. The pipe cleaner will soak up the sugary water and reach for the top of the pipe cleaner. After that, the water will start to form and look like crystals.
