The Church

For R.E, Room 8 were put in groups of 2 or worked individually to create a list of things that we image the Church as. Once we had finished, we converted it into WordItOut and took a snapshot. This is the picture of my Word Cloud.

12 Days of Christmas

Recently, Room 8 experimented with the Google spread sheets to create a graph. For starters, we used 'items' in the 12 days of Christmas and converted it into a graph. This graph shows the results of our experiment.

No matter what form, what size, a triangle's angles will always add up to 180°

Image result for triangle shapes 180 degreesThis morning in maths, we investigated the angles of triangles. Firstly, I drew an isosceles triangle and cut out the 3 corners and make connect them to create a straight line. I have learnt that the angles of triangles add up 180° because 180° is a straight line. We repeated this rule but used corners used from different shaped triangles. They too, had angles that added up to 180°

Reading, Is it Important?

Reading, is it important? It is easy to say that it is really important because of its many uses of related with learning.
Reading is important in many ways that are included in our education. It is a helpful way  that we can understand what we write or read. No reading can result in learning no unique and may cause you to use already known words many times. Reading can help you learn new things and words everyday!
First of all, learning may not be able to be done when someone cannot understand the meaning. It gives us the ability to communicate with others and know what they’re actually talking about. It can expand and enhance your memory and can give you facts and information that has been anonymous or something you haven’t learned yet.
Second of thought, reading is something we need. You use reading when you read signs, advertisements around you, etc. Reading also expands vocabulary and can be used to understand books that require high reading ages.
If you don’t read, many people will or can bypass you and become the better of you. You won’t be able to catch up with them if you don’t read and learn more than them. The meaning of reading is to understand what you’re reading, there is no purpose of reading if you don’t know what the subject of a story of a book may be. It is also needed to aquire maybe something you’ve always dreamed of or a job you’ve always wanted to be accepted by.
So for those that don’t like reading or those who do it rarely, you may be missing out your advantages in becoming someone successful.

Advertisement Critique - Best Advertisement

Best Advertisement ever
The act of giving and generosity has been repeated and lead to changes happening. It changed the old woman, the lady with her trolley, the dog, the woman and her daughter, the lady on the bus, the dying plant and a change in the man himself. It shows the amount of help one person can have.
A woman has disbelief when the man first shares his bundle of bananas and responded with love from his act of kindness. The dog received generosity and showed him loyalty. The child received money and gave him a bow of thanks. The woman with her trolley received aid and treated him like a family.

When the last 10 seconds shows all of the change made by the man, it shows life and happiness . The advertisement is trying to encourage viewers to help people out, even though it doesn’t give you fame or popularity, but a feel of emotions.

Shark Finning

Sharks worldwide are dying out because of shark finning. Shark fins are harvested from various species of sharks by fishermen in Europe.

Image result for shark finning10  to 100 million sharks die every year just for their fins to be harvested. When brought aboard, only some survive while having their fins cut. When they are dumped back into the sea, they slowly drop into the bottom of the sea, where they bleed out, die of starvation or killed by predators / scavengers. 3 sharks every second are in the operation of having their fins cut off by fishermen.

When the fins are sold to restaurants, they are boiled then made into soup. The dish is very common in the East Asian Cuisine. The fin is like a decoration for the soup. People who have eaten the fin described it as tasteless. The taste of the soup is mainly from other ingredients. Shark fin soup is sold for $350 a bowl! In the olden days, shark fin soup was only eaten by rich and wealthy people because of the cost.

Even though shark finning is reducing the shark population, the fins are also used its medicinal value. It prevents  heart disease, increases energy for kidneys, lungs, bone etc. Shark fins, believe it or not, actually contain a little more iron, riboflavin (vitamin B),  and zinc, but also a bit of phosphorus (phosphorus is poisonous).

Sharks should live freely through the ocean. They have done nothing wrong to have their fins cut off. If fishermen do still cut off shark fins, they should at least cut off only one fin at a time with a limit of 3 fins a week. The fins cut off should only be used for medical purposes.

Chocolate may be addicting, but think of what you would do next!

I have recently read a really interesting article from the Kiwikidsnews site by D Mulhern

Image result for chocolateThe headline caught my eye as I skimmed and scanned across the page.

Headline: Addiction To Chocolate Lands Man In Jail
Chocolate Junkie, Luis Augusto Mora, was caught red handed thieving two boxes of chocolates from a supermarket in Colombia.

Reason 1: I was surprised that Luis Augusto Mara, who had an addiction to chocolates could face big consequences.

Reason 2: I never knew something sweet and simple could land you in jail if you had so much of it, but in his case, it’s more on the stealing due to his addiction.

Concluding statement: Woah! A man must’ve eaten a whole truck load of chocolates to be having that much of an addiction! I also agree with the Colombian President, that putting him in prison for 5 months just for stealing chocolate isn’t so much of a problem. The police should just worry about the bigger crimes committed by other civilians.

White hat :
Who was involved? - Luis Augusto Mara
Where did this event happen? - Colombia
When did this happen? - June 18 2014
What happened? - A man was arrested for theft
Why did this happen? - Because he was stealing 2 boxes of chocolate to feed his addiction.
