What is ANZAC day?

Image result for ANZAC day poppies
ANZAC is a day celebrated every 25th of April every year. It has been celebrated since 1922 and is still going. ANZAC day is one of the longest worldwide event! On ANZAC day, we wear poppies because those were the first flowers to grow on Flanders Field battlefield. These flowers also grew between soldiers’ graves.
When the war was over, someone would play “The Last Post” on the trumpet. This song reminds the soldiers to wake up and go home. It is also calling out to the souls of the soldiers who died in the war, that they will come back to reunite with their families.
NZEF (New Zealand Expeditionary Force) joined in with Australia and the word “ANZAC” was born (Australian New Zealand Army Corps). Australia and New Zealand fought in Gallipoli fighting the Turkish soldiers and Germans. When the soldiers came back from war, %50 of the soldiers were killed/injured.

On the 24th of April, our school did a little liturgy at 2:15 and made small speeches about symbols of the ANZAC (lemon squeezer, poppies, etc). After we said the prayers, the children stuck on crosses into the ground. When they were done, the rest of Room 8 poked the ends of the sticks of the paper poppies into the ground and all left to go back into our classrooms.

A day at Extreme Edge and Burger King!

In the holidays, Nico, Liam, Danielle, Nathaniel, Melissa, Ging, Leah, My mum, Carl, Maria and Donna went to the Extreme Edge Climb Zone.
On Saturday, I was awoken by my sister kicking me and watching Jojo’s bizarre adventure on her laptop. She was still in her pyjamas and she was excited to go to the picnic. It was a picnic where they had to cosplay as an anime character. There were going to be strangers and a few people she might’ve knew. I groaned and and picked my torso up from the bed.
When my mum was dressed and ready to go, she called my sister and she quickly put on her basketball jersey, wig cap, short blue wig and short pants. She was cosplaying as Kuroko from Kuroko no Basuke. She had a green lunch box with her mini fudge cookies in it. She made the cookies last night and saved them for the picnic. I got rewarded a cookie from her after I cleaned the mess she made. It was worth it.
When she left, I fell back to sleep. About 3 hours later, my mum woke me up and told me to change my clothes. I didn’t know where we were going, but we were in a hurry and went straight into the car. While we were driving to the ‘place’, my mum thought she smelt something bad, but for me, something smelt like fries. She passed me a paper bag that included fanta, coke zero, a pair of fries and burgers. I ate some fries and I passed her fries to her. When we got there, I started drinking my coke zero.
There was a huge sign on the building that said ‘rock climbing’ all in capital letters. We entered the and then waited in the line. In the front of the line, there were two iPads that were used to register new people. When we finished giving the information about ourselves, we went to the cashier to buy the paper bracelets that wrapped around our wrists.
When I looked at people who were climbing, they were fast, but I was amazed to see kids who were at least 4 years old climbing the wall to the very top! The first things we had to do was to grab a harness from the harness instructor. He showed us how to clip the hooks to the ring of the harness. To open up the lock, you have to push it down and twist to the right, but we have to make sure that we have the hook back in place because it might zip up to the top where no one can reach for it.
Once the instructor put on my harness, I quickly ran to the others, wanting to climb with them. The  first rock climbing wall I tried was a wall that was planet themed. The rocks were supposed to look like meteorites and that we had to step and hold on to them. As I was ¾ there, I looked down, and people looked like they were the size of cats. I had the fear of heights, so I easily got scared. I thought that if I let go, the line that held me up would just hastily go down and that I would turn into a mush.
I started to sweat and that caused my hands to slip off. My heart’s beat had slowed down and my breath was hard to catch. But then the line started to go down to the ground slowly, like a leaf falling to the ground. I went to my mum who was drinking her coffee that she ordered from the cashier earlier. I ate ¼ of my burger from the bag and drank some of my coke zero. That made me relief from my fear.
I joined the others and tried the ladders wall. The ladders start off easy. The first ladders were like handles and you can grab onto them. It was very easy, but as you go higher, the ladders get thinner and there will be thinner platforms to balance on.  As I was on the final platform, I stood on one ladder and tried to reach for the ladder that was  high above me, but I wasn’t I enough to grab on, so I had to fall down and let myself fall slowly to the ground.
I tried the other wall that was a NASA rocket ship with aliens on the top window. As I climbed up buttons, handles and gears, I was able to get near the aliens. Just like the planet wall, I couldn’t reach for the rocks. I took one last step with my right leg and I was high enough to get up to the aliens. I let go, cheering with my first victory and running back to the others.
I caught up to them and tried versing with the others. As we all had turns on a wall, they wanted to go to adventure land that was between the arcades and the professional rock climbers section. They all left me behind (because I was still climbing a wall and because nobody ever told me) and ran away to adventure land.
As I got down a wall that I had been climbing (I finished it), Danielle decided to be a goodie two shoes and told me where she and her cousins were going. As Danielle and I entered adventure land, there were some other walls that were easier. The adventure land also came with a huge pirate themed playground (sadly it was only for kids who were aged 9 years old or under).
The first one I tried was a hurricane wall. There were objects hanging around a tree which we had to hold on to. Many of them were small and hard to get a hold of to, but I was able to reach the very top. As I looked for other walls I wanted to try, I saw my friend, Melissa, climbing the tetris blocks and sitting on the zig-zagged orange block. Melissa gained her other friends’ attention and we all started laughing.
Later, I asked my cousin Danielle to climb the jungle wall with me. When we got there, we saw a small child, he was about the size of a standing old dog. He was stuck on the Jungle wall because he was scared to go down the steps (The each of the steps were about half a meter tall). He suddenly slipped and started screaming more.
When he got down, the parents took him to the other easier walls, so Danielle and I went on the jungle wall. The jungle wall had blocks and hard obstacles to cross. It was also for two people so they could versus each other. The goal was to reach the 3 top blocks and stand on either one of them. We clipped and buckled on our hooks and started racing. It was quite hard to pass the steps because the steps were thin and there was no handle to hold onto. I was on the right side while Danielle was on the left. Both of us were trying our best to get up the blocks and ladders, but it was too hard. I was half-way through, while Danielle was getting up the blocks. We both got down because neither of us could get up.
For the final wall, I tried the hard wall which was the sea wall with ropes to cling onto. When I tried it, there were no handles to hold on to, but flat wooden and painted fish to claw onto. To get on the fish, you have to press your fingers onto it, or else your fingers will slip off. Even if we tried to hold on to the ropes, the ropes will fall back and will make your legs out of reach from the wall.
When I got off, I was very thirsty and I was sweating. I went back to the table where the adults were having a conversation to take a sip of my drink. It was empty, so I tried my mum’s drink. It was also empty. Auntie Donna was very kind and got me a Powerade energy drink (It was the large size). I thanked her and sat on the seats. When it was time to go, the others got the assist of an adult to take off our harness. Except for Danielle and I, we took it off all on our own.
We went outside and went inside our cars. Instead of going home, we went to Burger King. In there I ordered a 6 chicken nugget pack with sweet sauce. I saw a poster near the cashier about the new (but it is actually quite old) frappes. The ad had perfect quality frappes, but all of them looked the same. I said to my mum “I thought this frappe was going to be yummy, but it turned out to not have that much chocolate!”
When we sat on our tables, our orders were ready and I got my chicken nuggets that I wanted. There was a leftover of a chocolate frappe. I asked the adults at the other side of the table “Do you know who’s chocolate frappe this is?”
“I thought you said you wanted this?”, she replied.
“I sai- just… nevermind”, I replied
While we were eating, Jesse and uncle Nick came over. By that time everyone had finished their food (except me, I was still drinking my frappe). We were sitting on the spinning stools. We were having fun spinning around. The adults were then finished talking and started to finish up the food that they’ve left over. They took their drinks and went inside their cars. This time, we were really going home. We had an awesome time at Burger King and Extreme Edge. I rate this 10/10, best day ever!
